What Is An Emergency Tooth Extraction?
At Coyne Oral Surgery, we strive to preserve our patients' natural teeth whenever possible. However, in some cases we may need to extract a tooth that is infected, broken, or causing problems inside the mouth. Whether you need an emergency tooth extraction or simply need to make room for healthy growth, Dr. Cathleen Coyne and our team are dedicated to making your experience as smooth and comfortable as possible. We can offer multiple sedation techniques, including nitrous oxide and IV sedation, to keep you relaxed and calm. If you're dealing with a broken or infected tooth, we invite you to contact our Franklin, TN dental office to discover if a tooth extraction is the best option to preserve your smile.
How Do You Perform A Tooth Extraction?
Tooth extractions are performed on-site at our Franklin, TN practice. Before starting, we'll provide local anesthesia or more comprehensive sedation to help you stay relaxed and comfortable. Once you're ready, Dr. Coyne will start the extraction. For a simple extraction, Dr. Coyne will loosen up the tooth with a special device called an elevator before removing the tooth. A surgical extraction involves making incisions in your gums to get to the tooth. If necessary, the tooth may be broken up into smaller pieces so it can be removed. After finishing, Dr. Coyne will close the incision in the gums. You may be prescribed antibiotics to take before or after your tooth extraction, especially if you are prone to infections or have other health concerns.
Before you leave, we'll discuss tooth extraction aftercare instructions, including steps you can take to manage pain or bleeding. Depending on how complex the procedure is, it may take you anywhere from a few days to a few weeks for the area to completely heal. In the meantime, you should stick to soft foods (like yogurt, soups, and ice cream) and avoid spicy or hard foods that may irritate your gums.

Tooth Extraction Reviews
I had the best experience at Coyne. I needed to get my wisdom teeth removed, but was severely anxious regarding the procedure. Marlena was the absolute best resource and spent extra time with me, answering my many (and sometimes irrational) questions and easing my worries. They did everything possible to ensure I had a smooth and painless experience. They even called to check up on me in the first few days after my procedure. I could not more highly recommend an oral surgery practice!!!
My experience was great, I went in for a tooth extraction and my procedure was done within a couple of hours.

I was extremely nervous about getting my wisdom teeth removed. Dr Coyne and her assistant Marlena were incredible! Marlena made my experience incredible through her comforting communication before and during the procedure. I can't thank her enough. Dr Coyne is an absolute Professional at what she does. She was so fast and efficient when she removed my teeth. I barely have any pain or swelling. I highly recommend everyone who needs Oral Surgery to go to them. You won't find a better place!
Had an impacted wisdom tooth with cyst removed yesterday by Dr Coyne and I can’t imagine it going any better! I too was one of those very anxious patients and looking back that was probably the hardest part of my procedure. The wait. So if you’re considering using Dr Coyne and her team for some type of oral surgery…just DO IT!! Friendly people who are VERY good at what they do.
